Butjani Lodge
Butjani Lodge is the prime site for my Astronomy activities. This is
because of its open, clear vistas which are unspoilt by any form of air or light
pollution. Butjani is relatively elevated, yet sits on a flat terrain from where one
can easily view the Eastern and Western horizons, as well as breathtaking views of the
Milky Way, and every other form of heavenly structure.
Astronomy Weekends and mid-week training courses are most popular events at this
delightful venue.
Spionkop Lodge
Spionkop is the site of the famous Anglo-Boer War Battle, and the feature upon which this
fierce conflict took place can be seen below. Raymond and Lynette Heron are most ably
assisted by members of their family to run this establishment in exemplary fashion. The
family are enthusiastic about everything they do, and love Astronomy. Several
memorable Astronomy presentations have been run for Conference Groups at
SpionKop. Another Group viewed a full Lunar eclipse, together with 2 Comets the same
night, from the peak of Spionkop Feature. A breathtaking experience such as this
happens only once in a Lifetime.
ISANDLWANA LODGE
Stargazing at this atmospheric venue makes for great relaxation, after an emotional and energetic day with Rob Gerrard FRGS, re-enacting the events on the World renown Battle Sites of Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift. The Lodge's exclusive ambiance ensures that you will have plenty of time looking through the Telescopes on the fabulous, open deck which gazes upon the ghostly outline of the famous feature.
